The Launch of Penang Power 100 – Rise To The Challenge

The much-anticipated Penang Power 100 coffee table book was launched by YB Yeoh Soon Hin, Penang state executive councillor for tourism and creative economy (PETACE), who represented YAB Chow Kon Yeow, chief minister of Penang at a luncheon today.

Held at The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang, the event saw a turnout of about 100 invited guests, comprising influential leaders, business-owners and dynamic entrepreneurs from the various industries.


A project initiated by founder and president of CHTNetwork, Mr Chng Huck Theng, this exclusive coffee table book features brand stories of organisations from the industries which drive and support Penang's economy, eg; industrial and manufacturing, tourism, medical, education, food and beverage, real estate, creative arts and more. The industry book also honours and celebrates the Penang people, their achievements and contribution, and in rising to the challenge, continue to bring progress to Penang as one community, amidst the Covid-19 crisis.

In his welcome address, Mr Chng noted, "Penang has not been spared the wrath of Covid-19 and as we are all trying to pick up and live life with as much normalcy as possible in this pandemic, it is time for Penang to rise again; to show the world that we have survived the tough times, to remind the world that now is the time to visit Penang, be it for a holiday, to stay, study or invest in – akin to the rebirth of the magnificent phoenix emerging from its ashes, stronger and even more majestic than its previous form."  


In his speech, read by YB Yeoh, chief minister of Penang YAB Chow Kon Yeow, extended his congratulations for the timely production of this 159-page hardcover to recognise the resilience of the personalities and organisations featured, and to commemorate Penang's 50 years of industrialisation."  "I have every confidence that our existing electrical and electronics industry, supported by the services sector will ensure that Penang continues to move ahead in becoming a greater economic powerhouse whilst remaining steadfast in achieving our Penang 2030 vision of a family-focused green and smart state that inspires the nation," he added.


Representatives of the featured establishments were also invited to receive their certificates of acknowledgement and appreciation from YB Yeoh Soon Hin, and YB Dato' Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Hussain, Penang state executive councillor for trade, industry & entrepreneurial development.

Sushi-making with World Sushi Cup Champions by Norwegian Seafood Council

World Sushi Cup champions Sky Tai and Leon Yap led media participants in a hands-on sushi-making class organised by the Norwegian Seafood Council at KDU University recently.
