OVER 300 BUSINESS MEETINGS PRE – ARRANGED FOR MALAYSIAN COMPANIES AS A KICKSTART TO 19TH CAEXPO 2022

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) collaborated with China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) Secretariat and the China Construction Bank (CCB) in jointly organizing the 4th Malaysia-China B2B Business Matching Session 2022. Today’s event marks the kickstart of the upcoming 19th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) 2022 which is scheduled from 16 to 19 September 2022 in Nanning, China.

By utilizing CCB’s clientele in China, the bank had invited more than 200 foreign buyers to meet with Malaysian companies. More than 300 business meetings were pre-arranged for more than 50 Malaysian companies to explore collaboration and business opportunities with Chinese enterprises comprising importers, exporters and potential investors. The business meeting session will be held virtually for 3 days from 13 to 15 September 2022 on CCB’s digital matching platform known as CCB Matchplus.

Follow with the rising of digitalisation as the ‘New Economy’, MATRADE has numerous initiatives to ensure business continuity via digitalization approach for Malaysian companies and exporters such as virtual business meetings or known as eBizMatch, virtual National Export Day, virtual MIHAS exhibition, virtual export acceleration, etc. The success of digitalization initiative adoption had been well demonstrated by MATRADE, whereby a total of 1,692 eBizmatch session was organized in 2021 which involved 1,205 Malaysian exporters and 993 foreign buyers, generated more than RM4.5 billion of potential sales.

For the past three years, MATRADE had collaborated with CCB in facilitating market access of Malaysian companies into China. This was done by leveraging on the strong network of CCB throughout the nation. In order to ensure the continuity of the friendly cooperation, MATRADE had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CCB, witnessed by YB Datuk Lim Ban Hong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry and His Excellency Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China.

“The endurance of collaboration between us will grow the linkages from strength to strength in various areas especially in facilitating the market access of Malaysia companies into China market”, said YBhg. Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, CEO MATRADE.

In addition, the event today also featured the signing of a total 7 business-to-business MoUs between Malaysia companies and Chinese enterprises in various industries involving agricultural products, steel products, quartz sand, food processing products and power plant construction project. The trade value inked in the various MoUs amounted more than USD750 million.

In this year’s edition of CAEXPO, Malaysia will be featured as the Guest Country of Honour. YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Prime Minister of Malaysia will be delivering a speech virtually during the Opening Ceremony of 19th CAEXPO 2022 on 16 September 2022. “Malaysia’s participation in CAEXPO 2022 augurs well with the theme “Sharing RCEP New Opportunities, Building a Version 3.0 China ASEAN Free Trade Area”. We will forge closer business relationships and cooperation with companies in China as well as from other participating ASEAN countries”, said YB Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

Apart from the Malaysian SMEs which are participating in this year’s CAEXPO, Malaysia Pavilion in CAEXPO will highlight prominent Malaysian brands such as Petronas, AirAsia, Shangri – La and Sime Darby Group to showcase their products and services. Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysia Palm Oil Council (MPOC), Malaysia Timber Council (MTC) and Education Malaysia (EM) will be participating in the physical Malaysia Pavilion. MATRADE, in collaboration with MPOB will promote the palm oil industry and its products at the palm oil pavilion. Tourism Malaysia (TM) will also showcase Malaysia’s attractive tourism destinations in the Pavilion. The sectors promoted in CAEXPO 2022 include Oil and Gas, Healthcare and Wellness, Food & Beverages and Lifestyle.

Last year, Malaysia’s participation in CAEXPO had recorded the participation of 58 Malaysian companies and successfully generated RM572 million of export potential sales. Malaysia Pavilion coordinated by MATRADE received four main awards namely Best Trade Visitor Organizer; Best Exhibitor Organizer, Best Trade and Economic Outcomes, Best Trade Organizer for Online Businesses.

Sushi-making with World Sushi Cup Champions by Norwegian Seafood Council

World Sushi Cup champions Sky Tai and Leon Yap led media participants in a hands-on sushi-making class organised by the Norwegian Seafood Council at KDU University recently.
