Lotus’s Malaysia raises the marketability of homegrown products with its fifth Buy Malaysia Campaign with MDTCA

Lotuss Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Lotus’s Malaysia) together with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) launched its Buy Malaysia Campaign 2022 to instil the spirit of patriotism and a sense of pride amongst Malaysians toward all homegrown made products.

Launching the Buy Malaysia Campaign at Lotus’s Shah Alam today was Yang Berhormat Dato’ Rosol bin Wahid, Deputy Minister of Malaysia Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair’s accompanied by Hairol Ariffein Sahari Chief Executive Officer of Halal Development Corporation and Kenneth Chuah, President of Lotus’s Malaysia.

In its continuous support for the growth and development of homegrown brands from Malaysia, Lotus’s commits to delivering its responsibilities in supporting, transforming, enhancing, and encouraging the capacity and capabilities of local Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) through its vigorous B2B programmes.

“Apart from being a platform for local producers to gain wider market access to advance their businesses, we also supply local small- operated businesses or your neighbourhood Kedai Runcits with bulk items at very competitive pricing. To date, we now have over 900 Kedai Runcits subscribing to this convenience and our efforts to enlarge this reach will continue”, said Kenneth Chuah, President of Lotus’s Malaysia.

He further added that the Lotus’s SME Support Team is always on a lookout for potential suppliers through working closely with MDTCA and other government agencies like the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) and HDC.

To help raise the marketability of locally manufactured products from its 95 partnering SMEs, the retailer will also be conducting various initiatives that include media engagements, in-store communication, promotions, and product samplings to gain consumer interest and trust for quality, affordable Malaysian made products from now until December 2022. Currently, consumers can enjoy over 800 Malaysian made products of which 400 products are certified Halal at all its 64 stores nationwide.

“As a retailer, we have confidence in the capabilities and qualities of our SME partners. This is evident as 90 per cent of over three thousand Lotus’s Own Brand items are sourced and manufactured locally and many have become our customers’ all-time favourites”, continued Chuah.

Forming part of the programme earlier today are 15 out of the 95 Lotus’s partnering SMEs and five NGOs together with social enterprises who have been allocated space to not only sell but more importantly promote their products and cause to consumers.

As an appreciation and recognition to these homegrown Malaysian brands and products, Lotus’s together with the Ministry and HDC awarded ten companies with the Best Lotus’s SME Suppliers award, three SMEs with the Best New Lotus’s SME award, and five companies for the Top Performing HALAL SME during the Make Halal Your First Choice Campaign in collaboration with HDC.

In line with its #KitakanJiran spirit and to encourage the good work conducted by the NGOs and social enterprises, Lotus’s also contributed vouchers worth RM500 each to five NGOs together with the social enterprises participating in the launch of Buy Malaysia Campaign 2022.  

Besides that, Lotus’s also shared that it is embarking on a new programme that aims to develop and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs of modern small retail outlets through the sharing of its expertise and knowledge of the retail industry. The retailer hopes to not only provide local suppliers with wider market access but help more Malaysian business owners to operate profitably.  

On top of that, the retailer also launched its Fiesta Nusantara Bersama Lotus’s event, bringing 80 local entrepreneurs from across the country to promote delicacies, arts & crafts, accessories, fashion wear and beauty care products to consumers at four of its outlets, namely Lotus’s Ampang, Lotus’s Rawang, Lotus’s Semenyih and Lotus’s Shah Alam from now until year end. Further to support the country’s economic growth, Lotus’s is actively providing more employment opportunities for Malaysians via its Kru Ceria recruitment drive. The retailer also emphasised the value of creating a diversified and inclusive working culture by welcoming senior hires, people with disability and people under parole to be part of its growing family. Lotus’s believes that everyone should be given a fair chance to work and enhance their own livelihood and be productive members of society.

The retailer will continue to invest in Malaysia with the introduction of new Lotus’s stores in various formats bringing fair price to wider consumers as well as creating more employment opportunities.
