Malaysia’s Largest Taobao Store is Now Open!

Alibaba Group today launched the country’s largest Taobao store, named Taobao Store by Lumahgo, in partnership with MyTOWN Shopping Centre, and Lumahgo New Retail Sdn Bhd. The 5,000 sq ft outlet is Malaysia’s most comprehensive Taobao store to date, offering a seamless and convenient mix of online and offline shopping experience using New Retail technologies.
Jess Lew, Marketing Manager of Tmall World, Malaysia giving opening remarks at the grand launch of Taobao Store by Lumahgo.

Taobao Store by Lumahgo is the closest expression of Alibaba's New Retail technologies at display in the country, which blurs the line between online and offline commerce to curate a holistic, personalised end-to-end service for each customer.

Each step of the shopping process is presented through a combination of physical and digitised methods, integrating technologies such as digital payments and consumer insights to offer a smooth shopping experience via the Taobao app.

Merging both online and offline retail experience, shoppers at the Taobao store can easily purchase a displayed product by scanning a QR code on the electronic price tag, pick up the items from the store or arrange for delivery, and make the payment directly from the app. Selected items at the store can be picked up immediately, while the rest can be arranged for delivery across Malaysia.

Shoppers can also make full use of New Retail-inspired technologies such as the ‘Magic Mirror’ which allows them to put on different types of makeup virtually and make purchases with just a few taps on the screen. Other premium amenities at the store include a café, a children’s play section and a dedicated leisure area.

“We are thrilled to launch the largest Taobao store in Malaysia. The store is testament to our partnership-orientated approach in meeting the demands of our Malaysian consumers and marks yet another milestone in our growing commitment to shoppers here. The Taobao store will serve as a platform for us to showcase popular products and introduce new ones that appeal to local consumers, and we hope to employ our consumer insights and technology to create new opportunities for our local partners to deliver even better services,” said Jess Lew, Marketing Manager of Tmall World Malaysia.

Speaking at the launch, Fabian Kong, CEO of Lumahgo New Retail Sdn Bhd said, “Our aim is to go beyond the latest products and offer more localised and upgraded services to serve our customers. Shoppers can enjoy a full package of pre and after sales services, design consultations and installations, and many such offerings that elevates their shopping experience. This is only a starting point for us, and we look forward to taking this partnership to the next level in the coming years.”
The Taobao Store by Lumahgo will offer more than 1000 products. It will feature locally popular items across top selling categories in Malaysia, such as mum-and-baby, electronics, beauty, home & living and smart home appliances. This selection of products has been curated based on the preferences and purchasing decisions of local shoppers, as seen through the Taobao shopping app, and drawn from a variety of international and home-grown brands, including Lorenzo, KHIND, KitchenAid and Deep Furniture.

“Driven by digitalization and the changing customer needs, the global retail industry has undergone profound changes in recent years. In line with the ever-changing dynamics, Taobao Store by Lumahgo’s presence at MyTOWN offers ground-breaking and personalized retail experiences to Malaysian shoppers and reaffirm MyTOWN’s continuous readiness as a vibrant retail hub amidst developments of market trends. Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners’ Association (MHCEOA): New Tax Policy must have a transition mechanism.

Leong Foo Yew, President of the Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners Association (MHCEOA), has called on the government to provide reasonable buffer periods and support measures for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the implementation of the e-invoice system and the Sales and Service Tax (SST). This appeal aims to alleviate the dual operational pressures faced by businesses and prevent inflationary effects in the construction sector from being passed on to consumers. The MHCEOA recently held a luncheon to celebrate its 33rd anniversary, during which the 16th term (2025–2028) council members were sworn in. In his speech, Leong highlighted that the industry is currently grappling with administrative and financial challenges due to the simultaneous rollout of e-invoicing and SST. He noted that these additional compliance burdens come at a time when SMEs are already struggling with rising labor costs, wage pressures, and regulatory expenses—pushing many into even...
