myNEWS LAUNCHES JAPANESE-INSPIRED READY-TO-EAT FOOD PRODUCTION CENTRE

Malaysia’s largest homegrown retail convenience store chain, myNEWS Holdings Berhad, is proud to launch its Japanese-inspired food production centre (FPC). This is one of its efforts to elevate the local convenience market with the highest standards of quality, hygiene and freshness. The production centre, which operates under its subsidiaries, myNEWS Ryoyupan Sdn Bhd and myNEWS Kineya Sdn Bhd, will supply myNEWS stores with a wide array of high quality ready-to-eat (RTE) foods.

Understanding the need to cater for the busy lifestyle and increasing affluence of Malaysians who demand convenient access to retail stores that offer a variety of quality products and services, particularly quality food for convenience and fast consumption, myNEWS has taken the initiative to bring in renowned food industry players from Japan as partners. “In order to provide Malaysians with food of Japanese quality and standard, we must bring in Japanese experts to produce it,” said Mr Dang Tai Luk, Group CEO of myNEWS Holdings Berhad. As a result, Malaysians can now enjoy hassle-free options of grab-and-go Japanese-inspired foods catered to Malaysian tastes – ranging from sandwiches, onigiri, and bento, as well as freshly baked breads from its own bakery line Maru Bakes, and refreshing and stimulating hot and cold beverages from myNEWS’ Maru Kafe – while not forgetting mouthwatering local delicacies such as curry laksa and nasi lemak.

“We love the concept of convenience stores in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand where customers can walk in and find and enjoy exactly what they want. Here at myNEWS, we want our customers to have a similar experience, and now we have the capability to offer just that – convenience with quality,” said Mr Luk.

myNEWS’ food production centre, which started commercial production in June 2019, is able to support up to 600 outlets via two manufacturing plants that are driven by Gourmet Kineya Co Ltd and Ryoyu Baking Co Ltd, which are leaders and experts in Japanese food industry in Japan.
“This is a huge step forward for us and is in line with our strategy to always be the go-to convenience store,” Mr Luk added.

Ltd; Mr. Dang Tai Luk, Founder & Group CEO of myNEWS Holdings Berhad; Mr. Takehiko Abe, President of Ryoyu Baking Co. Ltd and Mr. Masahiro Honda, President of Marubishi Co. Ltd at the official launch of myNEWS’ Food Production Centre

Since its inception in Dec 1996, myNEWS has grown successfully and is currently serving more than 5 million customers per month at over 500 outlets nationwide. Having grown from a single traditional newsstand 23 years ago, myNEWS Group now owns the largest Japanese driven ready-to-eat product line, and the opening of its food production centre marks another important milestone for the homegrown brand in the fastest growing and changing segment of the retail industry.

To summarise, myNEWS’ ready-to-eat product line includes selections from Maru Kafe: Maru Cream, a soft-serve ice cream; the famous Maru Coffee for your everyday coffee fix and Maru Bakes’ freshly baked bakery products which are developed in a controlled environment at myNEWS’ food production centre in Kota Damansara. In addition to the Maru brand of offerings, there is a wide selection of rice and noodle-based meals such as sandwiches, onigiri, bento, curry laksa, nasi lemak, spaghetti, etc. Customers in Klang Valley can now satisfy their cravings at more than 300 selected myNEWS outlets.

Expansion of the offerings is in the pipeline to further establish myNEWS as the go-to convenience store in Malaysia. One related development is the myNEWS DASH online delivery service, recently launched to coincide with the announcement of its food production centre. Riding on the new awareness of its stringent RTE food standards, it is a strategic move intended to push its quality products beyond its outlets, directly to consumers.

“In addition to our fast growing physical stores network and the new FPC to serve you better, we are simultaneously enhancing the convenience for our customers by launching myNEWS DASH online delivery service, a hassle-free option for customers who wish to have their food and daily needs delivered to their doorstep,” Mr Luk concluded.

REVAMPED SURIA KLCC SIGNATURES FOOD COURT FULLY REOPENS WITH ATTRACTIVE PROMOTIONS

When is a food court more than just a mere food court? The answer: When it is designed and constructed according to the best practices that ensures hygiene and unbeatable customer experience, but also incorporate the new norms brought about by Covid-19. This is the philosophy of Suria KLCC’s Signatures Food Court, which is completely new, enlarged, and made safer, all at the same time.  The “original” food court dates to 1998, when the mall opened its doors for business. The last major renovation was in 2005 with extra seating added in 2015 bringing the capacity to 1200. The latest redevelopment, which incorporates the space formerly occupied by Parkson, the total number of seats were increased to over 1,500 but still leaves customers with more elbow room as it considers the need for adequate physical distancing.  More space for distancing is just part of the picture, as the overall dining experience has been upped several notches. For example, from 22 food court outlets and 4 kiosks,
