Japan’s Nano-particle technology makes it possible to use turmeric to fight modern day diseases

If the World Health Organization’s (WHO) latest report on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is anything to go by, it provides a disturbing account on the impact these diseases have on human mortality across the world.
According to the report, released in September last year, NCDs are the leading cause of deaths globally, and accounts for 41 million, or over 71% of the world’s 57 million deaths in 2016.

Four major NCDs are identified as being responsible for 54% of all global deaths, or 79% of all NCD deaths. These are cardiovascular diseases (17.9 million deaths), cancers (9 million deaths), chronic respiratory diseases (3.8 million deaths) and diabetes (1.6 million deaths).

“NCDs are known as modern day diseases and are largely attributed to changes in our lifestyles and habits,” said Ho Swee Lin, general manager of Cambert (M) Sdn Bhd.

“This is evident in the WHO’s report, which pointed to the harmful use of alcohol, tobacco, dietary behaviour and physical inactivity as the main behavioural risks associated with NCDs.

“The situation in Malaysia is even more disturbing with the report claiming that deaths due to cardiovascular diseases contributes to 35% of all deaths in the country, higher than the global average of 31%,” he said.

According to S.L. Ho, today’s highly competitive environment demands more out of people and their time. He said that in order to cope with the situation, people are adopting dietary and lifestyle behaviours that may be causing chronic inflammation in their body.
“We live in a very competitive and stressful world, and to manage these demands, we compromise on things that are essential to our health. “We also adopt unhealthy lifestyles and poor dietary habits such as consuming processed food or those with high sugar content which causes chronic inflammation in our body,” he said.

“It is these inflammations that leads to NCDs.” S. L. Ho, whose company distributes a variety of popular health supplements to retail pharmacies across the country, explains, “It is in this context that we decided to introduce Theracurmin® health supplement that has an innovative and clinically-proven curcumin formulation using extracts of Curcuma Ionga, better known as Turmeric.

“Studies have shown that curcumin can switch off the main inflammatory activities in the body by blocking the protein complex known as NF-kB, or nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells, which is believed to play a major role in many chronic diseases such as arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s, as well as other degenerative conditions,” he explained.

This does not mean that by simply adding turmeric supplements into your daily diet can bring the desired results because turmeric, in its natural form, is not water soluble and has notoriously low absorption levels.

“Not all curcumin products available in the market can provide the desired benefits since curcumin, in its original form, can’t effectively dissolve in water, and therefore may not produce sufficient amount for the body’s cells and tissues,” said S.L Ho.

“Theracurmin® is effective because it is produced through a patented process using Japanese Nano-particle technology that leverages on ultra-fine granulation and suspension system to convert turmeric powder into sub-micron particles called Nano-particle curcumin.

He also explained that the process used to produce Theracurmin®, enables curcumin to be absorbed and retained for as long as 24 hours in the body, allowing the body to obtain immediate and longer protection against inflammation.

“Clinical studies show that Theracurmin® enables a 2800% increase in the active ingredient’s bioavailability over Turmeric powder, making it an effective health supplement against NCDs,” he claimed.

“Theracurmin® has also been put through extensive clinical tests and proven to provide many benefits that can bolster one’s health against lifestyle-related diseases, S.L Ho said. He also said that some reports showed that consuming curcumin in the form of Theracurmin® can improve the brain function and lowers the risk of brain-related diseases by increasing the level of brain-derived neurotrophic factors, or BDNF protein, which increases the growth of new neurons in the brain.

“Clinical research on Theracurmin® shows that it also improves the function of the blood vessel walls, allowing the human body to better regulate blood pressure and prevent clotting, leading to a 65% decrease in the risk of a heart attack,” S. L. Ho said, adding that the ingredient is also proven to be effective in stifling cancer growth, development and spread at the molecular level.

Theracurmin® health supplement is available at all leading retailers and pharmacists across the country. The supplements come in capsule form with each containing 100gms of curcumin, equivalent to four full tablespoons of Turmeric powder

Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners’ Association (MHCEOA): New Tax Policy must have a transition mechanism.

Leong Foo Yew, President of the Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners Association (MHCEOA), has called on the government to provide reasonable buffer periods and support measures for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the implementation of the e-invoice system and the Sales and Service Tax (SST). This appeal aims to alleviate the dual operational pressures faced by businesses and prevent inflationary effects in the construction sector from being passed on to consumers. The MHCEOA recently held a luncheon to celebrate its 33rd anniversary, during which the 16th term (2025–2028) council members were sworn in. In his speech, Leong highlighted that the industry is currently grappling with administrative and financial challenges due to the simultaneous rollout of e-invoicing and SST. He noted that these additional compliance burdens come at a time when SMEs are already struggling with rising labor costs, wage pressures, and regulatory expenses—pushing many into even...
