Chinese New Year Celebration with Doraemon - Bluer and Better than Ever

Calling all Doraemon fans! The blue robotic cat is back, and this time around, Animation nternational (M) Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya, has created its official pop-up store located at the Upper Ground floor of the Mall, especially for Doraemon fans from 11 January 2019 until 17 February 2019 at the mall.

With the overwhelming success of the Doraemon Pop-Up Store held in Johor Bahru, we have decided to bring this excitement back to our capital - Kuala Lumpur, to give all the Malaysian Doraemon fans and our neighbouring country the opportunity to visit this massive Pop-Up Store, which they would not only be able to take snap shots of 30 life-size Doraemon but will also experience the photo opportunity for your Instagram feeds. Many different types of merchandise are also sold at the pop-up store, including limited edition merchandise that is not available anywhere else. Entrance to the event is free of charge, and open to the public.

Together with us today, we have Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haslina Abdul Hamid, the Deputy Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, famous influencers, online celebrities, artists and many more.

Doraemon started as a children’s magazine in 1969. The story revolves around a robotic cat who travels back in time from the 22nd century to help a helpless, young boy named Nobita Nobi. A total of 1,345 stories were created in the original series, which are published by Shogakukan. Doraemon has since been a crowd favourite, amongst adults and kids alike. It has also become an icon internationally, appearing in the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, to promote the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The first ever 100 Doraemon Secret Gadget Expo was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2013, and the event was a huge success as it managed to attract people from neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines to travel to our country and visit the expo.

This time around, besides the 30 live-sized figurines on display, visitors to the event will also get to see variety of Doraemon-inspired merchandise sold at the pop-up store, there will also be other fun-filled activities during the weekends at the Upper Ground floor of the Mall, to cater for both adults and kids, hence there will be something for everyone to enjoy at the expo.

Steve Chow, Animation International (M) Sdn Bhd’s Director, was enthusiastic about how well and engaging the event turned out. He has always felt confident that the event will attract hardcore (and even newfound) fans of the hit anime character, Doraemon, which was why he was determined to create such a memorable event.

“I hope that patrons to the event will enjoy our first-ever pop-up store, which was curated specially for our Doraemon fans. We hope to create that same magical feeling of genuine happiness, togetherness and bonding, thus creating strong family values through spending quality time together,” Mr Chow added.

Tan Boon Leong, Centre Manager of Paradigm Mall PJ said, “In celebrating the arrival of the Chinese New Year, the mall has planned a list of attractive promotions and exciting festive activities in the mall. This year, we are taking the celebration up a notch by bringing in everyone’s all-time favourite anime character: Doraemon and friends to Paradigm Mall PJ!”

In conjunction with the festival, Paradigm Mall PJ also spread its CNY cheers with 40 children and teenagers, ages 7 to 12 and their caretakers from Yayasan Chow Kit at the mall today.

Aside from the photo-taking opportunities with Doraemon and friends, each child also received a special goodie bag containing limited-edition Doraemon and friends’ stationery supplies, as well as angpows (red packets) from the management of Paradigm Mall PJ. All guests were also entertained by the lion dance performance at the event.

“As we usher in the auspicious Chinese New Year celebration, we are very happy to be able to host, support and share the joy of the festivity year after year with children from less privileged family. We sincerely hope that the children and their caretakers enjoyed the fun-filled programmes we have put together for them,” added Tan.

Apart from the iconic Doraemon’s theme at Paradigm Mall PJ, blossoming flowers will also fill the mall for the memorable Chinese New Year celebrations. Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru (Paradigm Mall JB) and gateway@klia2 will also be flourished with auspicious flowers to usher in lots of good luck, prosperity and positive energy this Chinese New Year.

Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners’ Association (MHCEOA): New Tax Policy must have a transition mechanism.

Leong Foo Yew, President of the Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners Association (MHCEOA), has called on the government to provide reasonable buffer periods and support measures for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the implementation of the e-invoice system and the Sales and Service Tax (SST). This appeal aims to alleviate the dual operational pressures faced by businesses and prevent inflationary effects in the construction sector from being passed on to consumers. The MHCEOA recently held a luncheon to celebrate its 33rd anniversary, during which the 16th term (2025–2028) council members were sworn in. In his speech, Leong highlighted that the industry is currently grappling with administrative and financial challenges due to the simultaneous rollout of e-invoicing and SST. He noted that these additional compliance burdens come at a time when SMEs are already struggling with rising labor costs, wage pressures, and regulatory expenses—pushing many into even...
