Ascott Strengthens Oakwood’s Malaysia Portfolio with Golf-Front Development in Cameron Highlands

The Ascott Limited (Ascott) has strengthened its Oakwood portfolio in Malaysia with the opening of Oakwood Cameron Highlands, marking the brand’s second property in the country.

Owned by Armani Group and managed by Ascott, the 383-key serviced residence is strategically located in Tanah Rata, directly overlooking the Sultan Ahmad Shah Golf Club. The opening reflects Ascott’s continued investment in Malaysia’s domestic leisure and extended-stay segments, particularly within established highland destinations.

“The expansion of Oakwood in Malaysia signals our confidence in the sustained demand for residential-style accommodation in key leisure markets,” said Mondi Mecja, Country General Manager, Ascott Malaysia. “As our second Oakwood property in the country, Cameron Highlands represents a strategic addition to our portfolio. Its golf-front location, cool climate and established appeal allow us to meet evolving traveller expectations for space, flexibility and lifestyle-driven stays.”

The development comprises a mix of Deluxe Rooms, Studios and Two-Bedroom Family Suites, many equipped with full kitchens, washing machines and integrated workspaces. The product mix caters to multi-generational travel, leadership retreats and golf-driven weekend demand.

Dining and social spaces include Oakbistro, the all-day restaurant, and Oaklounge, a lounge overlooking the fairways, enhancing the property’s appeal for both leisure and corporate segments.

“With its scale, residential configuration and vantage point, Oakwood Cameron Highlands strengthens Ascott’s presence in Malaysia’s highland hospitality landscape,” added Simon Yu, General Manager of Oakwood Cameron Highlands.

The property also features a gymnasium, 24-hour reception, on-site laundrette, complimentary WiFi and housekeeping service, delivering a comprehensive serviced residence offering within Cameron Highlands.

Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners’ Association (MHCEOA): New Tax Policy must have a transition mechanism.

Leong Foo Yew, President of the Malaysia Heavy Construction Equipment Owners Association (MHCEOA), has called on the government to provide reasonable buffer periods and support measures for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) during the implementation of the e-invoice system and the Sales and Service Tax (SST). This appeal aims to alleviate the dual operational pressures faced by businesses and prevent inflationary effects in the construction sector from being passed on to consumers. The MHCEOA recently held a luncheon to celebrate its 33rd anniversary, during which the 16th term (2025–2028) council members were sworn in. In his speech, Leong highlighted that the industry is currently grappling with administrative and financial challenges due to the simultaneous rollout of e-invoicing and SST. He noted that these additional compliance burdens come at a time when SMEs are already struggling with rising labor costs, wage pressures, and regulatory expenses—pushing many into even...
